  1. Are you taking new cases?  Yes, we are taking new cases, and would be happy to speak with you. Call Michael Posner, MSW, LCSW at 918-809-4777.

  2. How soon can I get in? Our goal is to get someone in within a few days to a week. Sometimes, we may have an opening as soon as the very next day. Naturally, the more flexible you can be with when you can make it in, the sooner we're likely to find you an opening.

  3. What are the fees? How much does it cost? The first meeting (initial evaluation/assessment) lasts a full hour, and the fee is $150.  Subsequent Individual Sessions are 45 minutes, and the fee per session is $120. Double Session: The fee for a double session of 90 minutes benefits from a $40 discount, and is $200. Group session: Fee per 75 minute group session is $40 per person.

  4. Do you accept my insurance? The client pays for each session at the time of service. We do not accept insurance, though we can give you a receipt/statement, and can offer information on how you might find out if your insurance will reimburse you for some of the cost, if your plan has out-of-network benefits. We are considered out-of-network for purposes of insurance. We are not on any health insurance panels. (Please bear in mind that many people have insurance plans with high deductibles, and do not reach their deductible in the average year. In such a case, even when going to a place that officially "accepts" insurance, the full cost may actually be paid by the client anyway.) For more information about insurance, including a list of questions to ask your insurance company to determine whether and how much they will reimburse you for our services, please click on the "Fees & Insurance" page of this website.

  5. Can I pay for therapy/counseling with an HSA or FSA?  Although we do not give tax advice or financial advice, and you should verify this for yourself, to our knowledge therapy and counseling are indeed expenses allowed under the IRS rules for health savings accounts (HSA) and flexible savings accounts (FSA). For more information and links to financial institution websites that discuss this matter, please click on the "Fees & Insurance" page of this website, accessible on the horizontal navigation bar toward the top of this page.

  6. How many sessions will it take to reach my goals?  People are different, and their experiences with anxiety and stress are different. So there is no responsible way to set a specific number of sessions as the point by which a particular goal will be reached for everyone. Still, much research shows that after 12-15 sessions, and sometimes a good deal before then, clients often reach their goals...if they are willing to put in the work, both during the sessions and between sessions. Therapy is a lot like guitar lessons, French lessons, or learning anything else: Much of the progress depends on both how hard the student works during the lessons, and how seriously he or she practices between lessons.

  7. What are your office hours? And do you have after-work hours?  Yes, we are open both during work hours and afterward. We are available Monday through Friday, both daytime and evening, until 7:30 p.m.

  8. Do you prescribe medication?  Our specialty is in psychological and behavioral techniques, using the mind, body, and action to help overcome anxiety, and better manage stress. Therefore we do not have any psychiatrists or physicians on staff, and we do not prescribe medication. Some people do indeed benefit from medication in addition to psychotherapy or counseling or coaching. If you are working with us, and wish to use medication, too, and do not have a physician or psychiatrist, we would be happy to give you a referral.

  9. Do you work with children? Yes, we work with children aged 7 and up. When working with children, however, it is our policy, based on research and other considerations, that a parent or guardian must attend each session with the child. One important benefit of this is that the parent becomes knowledgeable and empowered to help their child with their anxiety between sessions.

  10. Are you available on an urgent basis? Our work is not intended to be for crisis situations, and certainly not for life-threatening situations. If you feel in danger, please call 911. But if you want to know whether we are available for a same-day appointment, for a non-emergency, and you feel like you can benefit from a session that same day, then—for existing clients, but not clients we have not yet begun working with—we can sometimes schedule a same-day session in-person, if we have an open slot available. And we will at least try hard to find a 15 or 30 minute time slot to speak by phone if you think that would be helpful. The fee for a same-day session, when available, and the fee for a session by phone or Skype, is the same as any other session. --$120. The fee for each 15 minutes, by phone, Skype, or in-person, is one third of the fee for a 45 minute session—namely, $40.

  11. Is this Christian Counseling? At The Anxiety Treatment Center of Tulsa we have a deep respect for the spiritual traditions and philosophical views of all our clients. Part of this respect is that we do not assume that any particular client will hold specific views on matters of faith. The good news is that our approach, which is both warmhearted and based on solid research, works well for people of all backgrounds and beliefs. And we respect you enough to accept you, and work with you, without attempting to impose upon you any particular worldview.

  12. Do you work with disability cases? Our goal and intention at The Anxiety Treatment Center of Tulsa is to help people overcome their anxiety. We do not easily or quickly conclude that someone would be unable to overcome their anxiety. So we are not the best ones to help someone build a case that they are disabled due to anxiety. Also, payment for each session is due at the time of service, and the client pays for each session at the time of service: We are not in the position to wait for payment until a disability case is resolved. Furthermore, filling out forms and paperwork or reports that might be necessary for a disability case is billed at the same rate as therapy sessions, $120 for 45 minutes. Finally, because we do not have psychiatrists or other physicians on staff, you are likely to do better for your case if you go to a clinic with physicians on staff. Still, if your primary goal is treatment for your anxiety, and you understand the terms and conditions mentioned above, we are happy to work with you, whether you are seeking disability or not.

  13. Do you do court-related, lawsuit-related cases? Our primary goal at The Anxiety Treatment Center of Tulsa is to help people who are ready and able to make progress toward healing their anxiety and managing their stress. If your ultimate goal is related to a court case, you would do far better consulting someone who works with many such cases, and is more familiar with the necessary procedures and paperwork.

  14. Do you do psychological testing? Our primary focus is to help people overcome anxiety and excessive stress. Although we have access to many questionnaires and checklists to help you determine various things, anything from which anxiety disorder you may be suffering from, to what may be your MBTI personality type, and can help with such things, it is not within the scope of our practice to do formal psychological testing/evaluations, and type up reports, of the kind sometimes wanted by the schools or the courts.  In short, then, it is unlikely that we do what you have in mind when using the term "psychological testing."

If you have any other questions, or would like to schedule an appointment to begin taking back your freedom and peace of mind, please call Michael Posner, MSW, LCSW at (918) 809-4777.
